about us

For more than 30 years we have been sharing the simplest thing — food cooked with heart.

We started in 1994 and to this day we cook and serve hot vegetarian meals.

Who is it for?

For everyone going through hard times: lonely elderly people, low-income families, displaced people, those affected by war or epidemics.

For anyone who needs support.

Why vegetarian?

We believe violence breeds violence, so we chose a different path. We want more people in Ukraine and around the world to live mindfully and with compassion.

We work to spread a culture of mercy and mindful eating.

What we do:

where there is cold, stress and uncertainty, we bring warmth, food and calm

We serve hot food on the streets

Three times a week we serve hot vegetarian meals in Kyiv, cooked by hand from good ingredients.

Every portion is a reminder:
“You are not alone.” Every week thousands of people receive a warm meal and simple words of support.

We respond fast when disaster strikes

When disaster strikes, we are already on our way.
Food for Life is part of the coordination group of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

After shelling our team goes to the site to feed survivors, rescuers and utility workers. Where it is frightening and cold, we bring warmth and food.

Vegetarian food

Ahimsa (non-violence)

Free for everyone

Hot food every day

Food for Life is an international charitable mission that provides healthy vegetarian food to millions of people around the world every day.

The story of Food for Life began in Mayapur, West Bengal, India, in 1974. The movement grew from a simple idea: no one should go hungry when we can share food.

Our choice is rooted in respect for all living beings, the principle of non-violence and a wish to reduce our impact on the environment. We also believe that a balanced vegetarian diet can be an important part of a healthy lifestyle.

Every day we cook hot vegetarian meals for people in hardship: the elderly, people with disabilities, low-income families, the homeless, displaced people and victims of the war.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion we have served 681,600 meals in Kyiv and 5,112,000 meals across Ukraine. Every day — almost 3,000 free meals in different cities.

Our strength is our volunteers and donors who cook, deliver and serve food to those who need it most.

We believe love can be shown simply — through a plate of hot food.

Transparency and how we work

Food for Life is funded entirely by voluntary donations, corporate partners and volunteer work. Not a single hryvnia is spent on anything other than direct help.

Food for Life’s work is coordinated on a voluntary basis.

We publish monthly financial reports and proof of how funds are used. Every donation is spent transparently: on food, fuel, supplies and so on.

Your donation is already turning into a hot meal for someone in need.

Thank you!
